The Silver Chinese Panda coin series is one of the most popular annual releases, due in no small part to the Chinese Mint’s use of a new panda design on the obverse each year. The rotation of the design keeps collectors coming back to the coin each year, while investors appreciate both the design of the coins and the .999 fine silver content. Silver Chinese Panda coins are available in bullion and proof each year, with a recent change in 2016 bringing new measurement engravings on the coins. Gone are the Troy ounce marks that saw this particular coin previously minted as the 1 oz Chinese Panda. New coins all feature Grams, with this 30 Gram coin replacing the former 1 oz silver piece.
All Silver Panda coins have a new design feature on the obverse each year. The giant panda, as the bear species is known, is used to separate the panda from an unrelated species known as the red panda. The giant panda is considered a vulnerable species on the conservation status list, with reports of pandas living in the wilds of China ranging from as little as 1,590 to as many as 3,000.
On the obverse of the 2018 30 Gram Silver Chinese Panda coin you’ll find yet another new design in the series. Engravings accompanying the panda’s image include the face value of the coin and its weight, purity, and metal content. The coins in this series have had a new design on the obverse every year but 2001 and 2002, when a repeat was used for both years.
The reverse of all Silver Chinese Panda coins includes the exterior façade of the Temple of Heaven. Located in Beijing, it is part of a complex of religious buildings constructed during the 15th century. Engravings on this face include the name “People’s Republic of China” in Mandarin Chinese and the year of issue.
All 2018 30 Gram Silver Chinese Panda Coins listed here are in BU condition. Coins in BU condition show no signs of wear and tear, but do have minor issues. These small flaws result from the striking process and include breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks.
