The Silver Canadian Maple Leaf coin was a game changer when it was introduced in 1988. One of the original silver bullion coins offered in the modern era, the Silver Maple Leaf was the first to use .9999 fine silver content in an annual issue offering. To this day it remains one of the few .9999 fine silver bullion coins issued each year by a sovereign mint. Today, 2018 Silver Canadian Maple Leaf “Moon Edition” Four Seasons Coin Sets are available to you online at Silver.com.

- Reverse of the coins uses Ruthenium to depict four different moon phases.
Earth’s moon follows a 29-day orbit around the planet with various phases of visibility throughout that rotation. In all, there are eight phases the moon goes through in a given 29-day period from a New Moon through the waxing and waning periods to a Full Moon at the end of the orbit cycle.
Four of those moon phases are featured in the designs of the 2018 Silver Canadian Maple Leaf “Moon Edition” Four Seasons Coin Sets. The sets are shipped to you with a special “Moon Edition – Four Seasons” box that houses four individual 2018 Silver Maple Leaf coins. Included with your purchase is a Certificate of Authenticity for the set.
Ruthenium is used on both the obverse and reverse of the coins. Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy on the obverse is fully covered with the Ruthenium layer. The reverse of the four coins uses varying degrees of Ruthenium coverage to depict the phases of the moon. In the case of this set, you’ll notice a New Moon (full coverage), Waxing Crescent (sliver of silver remains on right), Third Quarter (half-and-half), and a Full Moon with original, bright silver finish.
The reverse of the 2018 Silver Canadian Maple Leaf coins in this set features the sugar maple leaf design. A recognized icon of Canada since the mid-1700s, today the sugar maple is the national emblem and was designed for the Canadian Maple Leaf series in 1979 by Walter Ott for the debut of the Gold Maple Leaf.
On the obverse of the 2018 Silver Canadian Maple Leaf “Moon Edition” Four Seasons Coins includes the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty features here in a right-profile relief design created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt.
