Proof Silver American Eagle coins were introduced in 1986 alongside the 1 oz silver bullion version of the coin. The United States Mint later introduced a second collectible coin, the Burnished Silver Eagle, in 2006 on the 20th anniversary of the program. Neither the proof nor burnished coins were struck in 2009, with the burnished coin also skipped in 2010 as the mint grappled with unprecedented demand for its silver bullion coins.
All of these 2018-W 1 oz Proof Silver American Eagle Coins are available to purchase with a perfect grade from the Professional Coin Grading Service. The PR70 designation indicates the coins have full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws of any kind. A coin with a Deep-cameo label is one that possesses strong, frosted matte designs that contrast beautifully with the deeply-mirrored, clear background field.
On the obverse side of 2018 Proof Silver American Eagle coins is the design of Walking Liberty. Considered one of the two most beautiful American coin designs of the 20th century, Walking Liberty was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman and appeared on the half-dollar coin from 1916 to 1947.
The reverse face of all 2018-W Proof Silver American Eagle Coins includes the heraldic eagle of the United States. This seal was first designed in 1794 by Robert Scot, 1st Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. Updated constantly throughout American history, this is the modern design that was modified in 1986 by John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint.
