The 1/2 oz Gold American Eagle coin is one of the three fractional-weight offerings in the Gold Eagle bullion series. Together with the 1/4 oz coin, the 1/2 oz Gold Eagle represents the lowest mintage figures in the series. Although it has a lower demand, the 1/2 oz gold coin offers a great alternative to the higher cost of the 1 oz gold coin. Right now, 2019 1/2 oz Gold American Eagle Coins are available to purchase online at Silver.com.

The 1/2 oz Gold American Eagle bullion coin is often the one weight among the four in the bullion collection to have the lowest mintage. During the initial release in 1986, the 1/2 oz Gold Eagle had a robust mintage of 599,566 coins, but was still nearly 200,000 coins lower than the next closest coin and nearly one million less in mintage than the 1 oz coin. The one period in which the 1/2 oz coin surpassed the 1/4 oz coin, its typical competitor, came during the early 2000s.
On the obverse of all 2019 Gold American Eagle Coins is the image of Lady Liberty created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. He was commissioned directly by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1905 to lead an effort to revitalize and modernize the look of all American coinage as the nation emerged as a potential international power. Saint-Gaudens’ design was completed in 1907 and used on the $20 Gold Double Eagle until 1933.
The reverse side of 2019 1/2 oz Gold American Eagle features the image of American bald eagles. Designed by Miley Busiek, this image is exclusive to the Gold Eagle Series and features a male eagle flying over the nest as a female eagle shelters a baby eagle.
