Each 2019 1/4 oz Proof Gold Mexican Libertad in this product listing is available to you with frosted elements and a mirrored background field. These features help create visual contrast between the design on the coin and the background surface. Each coin is individually housed in this product listing with a protective plastic capsule.
Proof Gold Libertads were struck just twice by the Mexican Mint prior to 2005. The first was a 1 oz coin in 1983 and the second a 1/2 oz coin in 1989. The 1/4 oz Proof Gold Libertad was produced in 2004 and precipitated the launch of the Proof Gold Libertad Series in 2005 that included 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz coins.
The obverse face of all 2019 1/4 oz Proof Gold Mexican Libertads features the image of Winged Victory. She stands with a wreath crown held out in her right hand and her left-hand clutches a set of broken chains symbolizing freedom from Spanish oppression. Winged Victory stands at the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column in this design just as she does in real life in the center of Mexico City.
In the background field, you can see the mountains of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl. The former mountain translates as “smoking mountain,” while the latter translates to “white woman.” Iztaccihuatl, when viewed from the east or west, resembles the body of a woman lying down with her head, chest, knees, and feet reflecting the four peaks of the mountain.
On the reverse side of 2019 Proof Gold Mexican Libertads is the coat of arms of Mexico. This modern version of the symbol includes the Mexican golden eagle battling a serpent from its perch on the arm of a cactus.
