In 2019, KOMSCO introduced an exciting new series of gold bullion medals suitable for investors and collectors. Each medal has .999 fine gold, ideal for investors, and also comes with unique reverse designs that change with each date while also issuing the coins with limited mintages, factors that both attract collectors. Today, 2019 1 oz Gold South Korean Crowns are available to you online from Silver.com.

Medal Highlights:

  • Available to ship in protective plastic capsules!
  • First release of Gold South Korean Crowns!
  • Mintage limited to 10,000 medals only!
  • Consists of One Troy ounce of .999 fine gold.
  • The obverse depicts Sam-jok-o.
  • On the reverse is one of the gold Crowns of Silla, national treasure No. 338.
  • Latent security feature on the reverse.

The design on the Gold South Korean Crowns are inspired by a series of real-life crowns that were excavated on the Korean peninsula and date back to the 5th-to-7th centuries AD. Specifically, the original, ornate gold crowns were crafted for the leaders of the Kingdom of Silla, a dynasty that ruled the southern and central parts of the Korean peninsula for more than two hundred years. A number of the crowns were made over the course of time, but only 13 specimens remain today and all are national treasures in South Korea.

All of these 2019 1 oz Gold South Korean Crowns are available to you for purchase with protective plastic capsules. These gold medals come from KOMSCO with a distinctive reverse design for the first release and offer a limited mintage of only 10,000 specimens in total.

The obverse of all 2019 Gold South Korean Crowns features a common design element for the series. Here, a stylized design shows the four-legged bird known as Sam-jok-o. The type of bird he represents is open to interpretation with various accounts of what species he really is. However, regardless of the version of his tale you hear, Sam-jok-o is a representative symbol of the Sun god.

On the reverse side of 2019 1 oz Gold Crowns is a depiction of National Treasure No. 338. Housed in the National Museum of Korea, this gold crown is the smallest Silla crown discovered to date and is, in a sense, the simplest in design. Though it shares design similarities with other Silla crowns, such as having five tree-like prongs, it is the only Silla crown discovered that is made purely of gold with no accompanying jades or jewels of any kind.
