The history of the Caddo culture dates back to 800 BCE during the Woodland period, a stretch of North American indigenous history that dates from 1000 BCE to the initial period of contact with European explorers and colonizers. Caddo oral history suggests the creation story of the tribe started in a cave at the confluence of the Red River of the South and the Mississippi. This location is in northwestern Louisiana near the modern-day city of Shreveport, which is located in a parish named for the indigenous tribe: Caddo Parish.
