Silver Eagles feature designs from Adolph A. Weinman and John Mercanti. Weinman was a talented artist and sculptor who created the designs for both the Mercury Dime and Walking Liberty Half Dollar in 1916. Mercanti started his engraving career with the United States Mint at the Philadelphia Mint in the 1970s and finished his career as the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint in 2010.
On the obverse of 2019 1 oz Silver American Eagle Coins is the image of Walking Liberty Weinman created in 1916 for the half-dollar coin. It depicts Liberty in left-profile relief as she walks toward the horizon where the sun sets. She holds her right hand out to reach for the new day while carrying oak and laurel branches in her left hand.
The reverse of Silver American Eagle Coins features the heraldic eagle of the United States. This design was created originally in 1794 and modified for use on the Silver Eagle by Mercanti in 1986.
