The Una and the Lion coin design used by the Pobjoy Mint on these 2019 Silver BVI Coins is inspired by the 1839 issue of a 5 Pound sterling British gold coin. Created in 1839 by William Wyon, the design was meant to celebrate Queen Victoria’s ascension to the throne of England in 1837. The image depicted Queen Victoria as Lady Una from the 1590 poem The Faerie Queene by Edmund Spenser.

All 2019 2 oz Silver British Virgin Islands Frosted Una and the Lion Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. These coins are housed individually inside of protective plastic flips, inside mint tubes with a maximum of 12 coins, or inside of boxes containing 360 coins in total. The Silver Frosted Una and the Lion coin is a reverse frosted specimen. This indicates the coins have frosted background fields with mirrored design elements.

On the obverse of 2019 Silver BVI Frosted Una and the Lion Coins is Jody Clark’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II exclusively created for the Pobjoy Mint. This right-profile portrait depicts the Queen at the age of 89 wearing the Royal Diadem crown. You can also see in this design her neckline and shoulders present in the bust.

The reverse side of 2019 2 oz Silver BVI Frosted Una and the Lion Coins includes Wyon’s 1839 design of Queen Victoria. The first monarch ever depicted as a fictional character, Queen Victoria walks on the left side of a massive lion who serves as her protector and friend. In Spenser’s poem, the lion encounters Lady Una after she defeats a dragon. So enamored with her beauty is the lion that he follows her as a friend and protector.
