The largest coin available in the standard Proof Silver Mexican Libertad Collection is the 5 oz silver coin. Available from the Mexican Mint since 1996, the 5 oz coin and its 2 oz counterpart in the greater-than-one-ounce range have the lowest mintage figures you’ll find in this series. The 2019 5 oz Proof Silver Mexican Libertad Coin is now available to you for purchase online at Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Coins ship to you inside of protective plastic capsules from the Mexican Mint!
  • 23rd available release of the 5 oz Proof Silver Mexican Libertad!
  • Availability of proof Silver Libertads is limited!
  • Consists of Five Troy ounces of .999 fine silver.
  • On the obverse face is the image of Winged Victory.
  • The reverse side of the coins has the designs of the coat of arms of Mexico.
  • Issued on behalf of Banco de Mexico.

The Mexican Mint issued the 2 oz and 5 oz Proof Silver Libertad coins in 1996, four years after the introduction of the fractional-weight coins and a decade after the 1 oz coin entered annual production in 1986. These larger coins have long had the lowest mintage figures in most years, save their first two releases that generated debut interest from collectors.

The highest mintage figure for the 5 oz Proof Silver Libertad coin came in 2009 when 5,000 coins were issued. That figure was recently matched in the 2018 release, but the next closest figure in the program’s history was the 2016 5 oz Proof Silver Libertad with a mintage of 2,750 coins.

On the obverse side of all 2019 Proof Silver Mexican Libertad Coins is the image of Winged Victory. This iconic design is a symbol of the Mexican people and their struggle for freedom from Spanish control. She flexes her wings behind her figure as she holds a crown wreath in one hand and broken chains in the other.

Additional design aspects on this side focus on the twin volcanic peaks in the background. Named for Ancient Aztec lovers Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl, the volcanic mountains are situated outside of Mexico City and remain active in the 21st century.

The reverse face of 2019 5 oz Proof Silver Libertad Coins features the modern coat of arms for Mexico in the very center of the design field. Around it are 10 historical versions of this design used by the Mexican government since independence was achieved in 1821.

These 2019 5 oz Proof Silver Mexican Libertad Coins are available inside of individual protective capsules and come with frosted design elements overlaying mirrored background fields. All Proof Silver Libertads are produced at the Mexican Mint in Mexico City on behalf of the Banco de Mexico.
