The most popular gold coin for sale at the Royal Canadian Mint is the Gold Maple Leaf. Introduced in 1979, the only other coin available at the time was the Gold South African Krugerrand. Today, the Gold Canadian Maple Leaf is an industry leader with more than 40 years of history and .9999 fine gold content each year as of late 1982. Today, 2020 1/2 oz Gold Canadian Maple Leaf Coins are available to you online at Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Available to ship to you inside of protective flips or sheets of 10 coins!
  • 41st year of release for the Gold Canadian Maple Leafs!
  • Consists of One-Half Troy ounce of .9999 fine gold in BU condition.
  • The face value of $20 (CAD) is fully backed by the Canadian government.
  • On the obverse face of the coin is Queen Elizabeth II.
  • The reverse side includes the sugar maple leaf.

The 1/2 oz Gold Maple Leaf was the fourth coin weight introduced in the Gold Canadian Maple Leaf Series. The collection had only a 1 oz gold coin available from 1979 to November 1982. At this point in time, two more fractional-weight coins were introduced as the Royal Canadian Mint increased the purity of the coins to .9999 fine content from .999 content. The 1/2 oz Gold Maple Leafs weren’t introduced until 1986.

All of the 2020 1/2 oz Gold Canadian Maple Leafs in this listing come to you with either an individual protective plastic flip or a sealed plastic sheet of 10 coins. All individual coins in this listing are available to you in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

Gold Canadian Maple Leafs issued as of 2014 have new security features to combat counterfeiting of bullion coins. The first measure introduced was the inclusion of radial lines in the background to refract light in unique ways. This is applied to both the obverse and reverse fields. The reverse side has an additional security measure in the form of a micro-engraved maple leaf privy mark with the date mark in the center listed as “20.”

On the reverse side of 2020 1/2 oz Gold Canadian Maple Leafs is the image of the sugar maple leaf. The official emblem of Canada, the maple leaf appears on the national flag, governmental agency emblems, and the badges of multiple branches of the Canadian Armed Forces. It also features on all four metallic versions of the Canadian Maple Leafs.

The obverse of 2020 Gold Canadian Maple Leafs features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 79. Designed in 2003 by Susanna Blunt, this depiction shows the Queen in right-profile relief and is the first since the reign of her father, King George VI, to show the monarch without a crown.
