On the obverse of 2020 Reverse Proof Gold 400th Anniversary of the Mayflower Coins is a depiction of the Wampanoag. The first indigenous tribe to encounter the Pilgrims, the Wampanoag were responsible for helping the Pilgrims survive their first years in the northeast by sharing crops with them and eventually teaching the Europeans how to plant and harvest in North America.

The reverse of the 2020 1/4 oz Reverse Proof American Mayflower Coins includes a depiction of two pilgrims. This portrait of a male and a female figure showcases the hope of the figures arriving from England in the New World. Many of the Pilgrims were escaping religious persecution in England and seeking a freer world in the New World.
