The United States Mint offers two annual gold bullion coins for investors. The Gold Eagle is the official bullion coin of the nation and the Gold Buffalo is the only 24-karat gold coin the mint offers annually. Gold Buffalo coins have the same design on the obverse and reverse with each release, with both images inspired by the historic Buffalo Nickel coin. Today, 2020 1 oz Gold American Buffalo Coins are available to you online at Silver.com.

Buffalo Nickel coins were in circulation in the United States from 1913 to 1938. The coin was redesigned as a part of a broader effort launched in the US during the administration of President Theodore Roosevelt to redesign all American circulation coinage. The Barber coin designs from 1892 were being replaced with modern images that better captured a sense of Americana and growing pride in the nation’s international standing.

All of these 2020 1 oz Gold American Buffalo Coins are available to you for purchase in individual protective plastic flips or within tubes of 20 coins. Each individual gold coin for sale comes in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

James Earle Fraser redesigned the nickel using images of the American Plains. A native of Winona, Minnesota, Fraser spent his life growing up in Minnesota and the neighboring Dakotas. He encountered members of indigenous tribes and saw bison in the wild as part of his life growing up traveling the region. His redesign of the nickel was approved during the administration of President William Howard Taft.

On the obverse of the 2020 Gold Buffalo Coin is a right-profile portrait. This image of an indigenous tribal figure was created by Fraser by combining the facial features of three different tribal elders prominent in early 20th-century American culture.

The reverse side of 2020 1 oz Gold American Buffalo Coins includes a depiction of the American bison. This bison is featured in left-profile relief standing on a small mound of dirt. This side of the coin includes inscriptions of the face value, weight, purity, and metal content.
