The Gold Eagles from the United States Mint represent the first gold coins released by the US since 1933. Though these coins are not intended for circulation use, the release of the Gold Eagles marked a milestone in US coinage. On top of being the first gold coins in the US in over 50 years, the Gold Eagles were also the first gold coins of 22-karat purity since 1834.
Each Gold American Eagle has 22-karat gold content by weight, or 91.67% gold content. The remaining metallic content of the coin consists of 3% silver and 5.33% copper. This helps create a stronger coin.
The obverse face of 2020 1 oz Gold American Eagles bears Lady Liberty’s image. Created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the image featured on the $20 Gold Double Eagle coin from 1907 to 1933. Liberty features in the center with rays of sunshine emerging from behind her figure and a ring of 50 stars around the design field representing each of the 50 US states.
On the reverse side of 2020 Gold American Eagles is a design used exclusively on the Gold Eagle. Created by Miley Busiek in 1986, the image features an American bald eagle nest with a young hatchling and female inside the nest. Overhead, a male eagle flies above with its wings spread out wide.
These 2020 1 oz Gold American Eagles are available to purchase in near-perfect condition. Mint State 69 coins have full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Those flaws are limited to minuscule contact marks and hairlines. The included Early Release label indicates the coins were received for grading within the initial 30-day window following the US Mint’s release of 2020 Gold Eagles.
