A typical Gold American Eagle bullion coin is released in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. These coins retain full, original mint luster, but may show accepted minor flaws resulting from coining that include breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks. However, coins with Mint Error status such as these Gold Eagles are different.
These particular 2020 Gold Eagles are classified as Mint Error specimens with Obverse Struck Thru as the identifying flaw. This means that the design on the obverse field has visual flaws that resulted from obstruction of the die and blank during coining. In most cases, the flaw is a result of a fabric or wire strand that was on the surface of the blank when the die struck it during coining. As a result, there is a flaw in the completion of the design’s element on the surface of the coin.
The obverse side of 2020 1 oz Gold American Eagles includes a depiction of Lady Liberty. This front-facing design was created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and initially featured on the $20 Gold Double Eagle issued in circulation through 1933. Liberty is shown with rays of sunshine behind her figure and 50 stars around the design field.
On the reverse face of the 2020 Gold American Eagle is a family of American bald eagles. The image features a male eagle soaring over the nest as a female eagle stands guard over the hatchling within the nest.
Your 2020 1 oz Gold American Eagle has a Mint State 69 certification. Coins in this condition showcase full, original mint luster and come with no more than two minor detracting flaws present. Examples of these flaws include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines that must be located outside the primary focal fields of the coin.
