Starting in 2013, the Royal Mint boosted the gold content of British Britannias to .9999 fine gold content. The 2013 coin was a larger, thinner version for that year only with a 38.61 mm diameter. Since 2014, these 1 oz Gold Britannia coins have a standardized diameter of 32.69 mm.

On the reverse of 2020 Gold British Britannia Coins is a depiction of Britannia. The female personification of Britain, her figure stands along the coast with a trident in her right hand granting her control over the seas. Her left hand rests on a shield that has the Union Jack emblazoned upon its surface. The background field has a stunning radial sunburst design for enhanced security against counterfeiting.

The obverse of 2020 1 oz Gold British Britannia Coins includes the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is depicted here in right-profile relief in a fifth-generation design from Jody Clark. This design showcases the Queen at the age of 89 as she wears the Royal Diadem crown on her head.
