The Chiwoo Cheonwang Series from KOMSCO, the official mint of the Republic of Korea, is a popular low-mintage series that offers fresh designs on the reverse of its gold bullion specimens each year. This collection debuted recently in 2016 and is now offering its fifth new design with the release of the 2020 Chiwoo Cheonwangs. Today, 2020 1 oz Gold South Korean Chiwoo Cheonwangs are available to you online at Silver.com.

Medal Highlights:

  • Available to ship to you inside of an individual plastic capsule!
  • Fifth release in the Gold Chiwoo Cheonwang bullion series!
  • Mintage limited to 1,600 medals only!
  • Consists of One Troy ounce of .999 fine gold in BU condition.
  • On the obverse face is a new vision of Do ggae bi.
  • The reverse depicts Chiwoo in the foreground as he approaches the Hell Gate ready for battle.

KOMSCO offers the Chiwoo Cheonwangs on an annual basis in both silver and gold for sale. The silver collection is limited to a 1 oz silver option as the primary bullion specimen, with lesser availability for 2 oz and 10 oz specimens in recent years. The gold collection focuses on these 1 oz gold pieces with fractional-ounce options also available.

All of the 2020 1 oz Gold South Korean Chiwoo Cheonwangs in this product listing are available inside of individual plastic capsules. KOMSCO issues each on in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and has increased the mintage cap in 2020 by 100 gold medals. The 2019 release had a mintage of 1,500 compared to this year’s 1,600.

Changes come in 2020 not only to the reverse field but also to the image of Do ggae bi used on the obverse of the medals. While the overall design of the obverse remains the same, with Do ggae bi’s face on a battle shield and the latent security feature of KOMSCO included below, the depiction of Do ggae bi’s face has changed.

On the obverse of 2020 Gold South Korean Chiwoo Cheonwangs is a depiction of a grinning, mischievous Do ggae bi. The new facial depiction of Do ggae bi on this face accentuates the eyebrows, nostrils, and teeth more than previous issues and comes with the addition of large bull’s horns on the top of its head.

The reverse face of 2020 1 oz Gold South Korean Chiwoo Cheonwangs comes with a depiction of Chiwoo Cheonwang readying himself for battle against the forces of evil near the Hell Gate. This gate is said to have emerged from beneath his empire near the Salt Lake, threatening to unleash into the world. The God of War and guardian of peace, Chiwoo stands ready to fight for as long as needed to defeat evil.
