  • Queen Elizabeth II depicted on the obverse with the original 1990 Kookaburra design from Stuart Devlin.

  • Jennifer McKenna designed the reverse elements.

Silver Australian Kookaburra coins debuted in 1990 and featured only a 1 oz silver option in 1990 and 1991. The coins originally had a face value of $5 (AUD) with the first two issues, but when the program expanded in 1992 the 1 oz coin’s value was adjusted down to $1 (AUD). The 1992 introduction of extra coins resulted in three more weights for investors to purchase.

With the 1992 expansion, the Silver Australian Kookaburra program gained a One Kilo, 10 oz, and 2 oz coin alongside the 1 oz coin. The program continued with all four coins until 2010. The 2009 release was the last with all four weights as the 2 oz coin was discontinued starting with the 2010 issue.

On the reverse of 2020 1 oz Silver Australian Kookaburra Coins is a brand-new design for the series by Jennifer McKenna. The design depicts the largest member of the kingfisher species resting at the top edge of a roof as the sun begins to peek over the horizon in the distance. The stylized rays of the sun spread to the edges of the design field. Inscriptions on this side include “30th Anniversary” on the bottom rocker of the design field and McKenna’s “JM” initials with a Perth Mint “P” within the design field.

The obverse of 2020 Silver Australian Kookaburra Coins also has a unique design for the year. Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy is featured on this side at the top of the design field in Jody Clark’s sixth-generation portrait for Australian coins. Also included on this side is Stuart Devlin’s 1990 design that launched the Silver Kookaburra series.

These 2020 1 oz Silver Australian Kookaburra Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins are housed individually inside of acrylic capsules or in multiples. Bulk options include sealed rolls of 20 coins or boxes of 100 coins housed in five rolls.
