The music from Queen was influenced by progressive rock, hard rock, and heavy metal, with the group combining these influences to create its own distinctive sounds. The group formally united May and Taylor, who’d previously performed together in Smile, with Freddie Mercury in 1970. John Deacon was recruited by the group in March 1971, completing a quartet that would delight crowds and created some of the greatest rock ballads of the 1970s and 1980s.

Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse design element of 2020 1 oz Silver British Music Legends Queen coins. Her Majesty is shown here against the backdrop of the guilloche design element with the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head. The Queen is depicted in this portrait at the age of 89 and this serves as the fifth-generation portrait during her reign to showcase on British denominations.

Musical instruments used by the members of Queen are depicted on the reverse side of 2020 Silver British Music Legends Queen coins. The design field features the name “Queen” in the center, with a microphone and stand just below. There is a keyboard at the top of the design field with drums and two guitars at the bottom. Freddie Mercury was the lead vocalist and piano player in the group, with Brian May and Roger Taylor both contributing to vocals while playing the guitar and drums, respectively. Deacon was the group’s bass guitarist.
