The bushbaby is the colloquially used name of the small nocturnal animal on the African continent known as the galagos. The animal’s name in Afrikaans is nagapies, which stands for little night monkeys. The creatures are related to the Loridae and are readily found at night and have a cry similar to that of a baby, hence the naming of the creatures in Afrikaans.
On the obverse field of 2020 1 oz Silver Rwandan Bushbaby Coins is the depiction of two bushbabies in the lower-left field. This appears to capture the image of an adult and a young baby clutching tightly to the branches of a tree. The African continent’s outline dominates the remainder of the field with the geographic features of the continent depicted rather than national boundaries.
The reverse of 2020 Silver Rwandan Bushbaby Coins includes the National Seal of Rwanda. The coins in this series are backed by the Central Bank of Rwanda and feature inscriptions on the reverse in Kinyarwanda, the native tongue of the vast majority of residents in Rwanda. The seal is included with inscriptions of the supporting bank, the national motto, and the face value of the coins as simply “50.”
