The first official Royal Arms of England was adopted late in the reign of King Richard I. The famed warrior-king was known to most as Richard the Lionheart and spent most of his reign outside of England defending his territorial lands in France and leading Christian armies in the Middle East through the Third Crusades. From Richard I to Elizabeth II, the Royal Arms of England has changed many times.
All of the 2020 10 oz Silver British Royal Arms Coins in this product listing are available to you with an individual plastic capsule. The coins are all in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and represent the first time in this young series that the Royal Mint has offered a 10 oz silver version of the coin. The move, however, is not without precedent as the Royal Mint has released 10 oz silver bullion coins in recent years in the popular Queen’s Beast and British Valiant series of bullion coins.
Queen Elizabeth II is depicted in right-profile relief on the obverse of each 2020 10 oz Silver British Royal Arms Coins. Her Majesty is shown here in a portrait created in 2015 by Jody Clark for the Royal Mint. Clark was the youngest artist ever to create a British monarch portrait for coinage and showcases the Queen with the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head. The background visual element includes a guilloche effect that is similar to braided rope in appearance.
Timothy Noad designed this version of the modern Royal Arms of England for the 2020 10 oz Silver British Royal Arms Coin. The design features a crowned shield with four quadrants bearing the individual seals of the nations of England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. England is represented twice in the form of the Three Lions, while Scotland is in one quadrant with the Lion of Scotland and Northern Ireland is in the final quadrant with the Harp of Ireland. The shield is supported by the Lion of England on one side and the Unicorn of Scotland on the other.
