On the obverse, you can see Fafnir the dragon’s body as it twists up the face of the round. This body suddenly stops at the top of the rounds. In the image, his claws and long tongue are prominently featured to show his ferocity. Inscriptions include “Fafnir” and “1 oz Ag 999.9.”

The reverse image picks up where the obverse left off, and Fafnir’s lower half wraps around the image of the Bicephalous Eagle. The Bicephalous Eagle is a two-headed eagle. It symbolizes the Roman god, the god of all origins, and the guardian of doors, bridges, and other passageways. The eagle’s two heads face in opposite directions as a symbol of the past and future. Fafnir’s body makes an infinity symbol-like shape across both sides the round when they are placed together.

The Ice and Fire rounds have inverse designs. On one round, Fafnir’s body is shown is bold warm tones like red and yellow. The background is a vibrant, icy blue design. The other round is the opposite. The dragon is shown in shades of blue, while the background consists of fiery hues.

This special round series showcases some of the most ferocious mythological creatures from Ancient Germany. Tales of these creatures have been passed down for centuries. With each new release, a new beast will be shown in spectacular fashion from Germania Mint. The Fafnir rounds were the first release in this series.
