The 5 oz Silver Mexican Libertad was first introduced in 1996 with bullion and proof options of the coin available. The 5 oz Silver Libertad bullion coin is remarkably popular for such a large coin. In fact, in 2019 the 5 oz Silver Libertad had the third-highest mintage among the seven weights and outsold all four fractional-weight coins. In recent years, the Mexican Mint has expanded the availability of 5 oz Silver Libertads to include a reverse proof and antique option.
On the obverse side of all 2020 5 oz Silver Mexican Libertad Coins is the image of Winged Victory. Inspired by the Roman goddess of victory, Victoria, her depiction on these coins reflects the appearance of Winged Victory at the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column. The 22-foot statue on the top of the column holds a wreath crown in one hand and broken chains in the other hand.
The reverse face of 2020 Silver Mexican Libertad Coins in this weight features the modern coat of arms for Mexico in the center.
