Intense demand for the 2020 Silver American Eagle in the early months of 2020 forced the United States Mint to expand production of the coins to other mints to help compensate for increased demands and temporary shutdowns. These 2020-P 1 oz Silver American Eagles do not have a “P” mint mark from the Philadelphia Mint, but are verified to have come from the Philadelphia Mint as an emergency production to help meet increased demand.
All of the 2020-P 1 oz Silver American Eagles in this product listing come with a perfect certification from the NGC. A Mint State 70 coin has full, original mint luster and presents with no detracting flaws of any kind on the design elements or background areas of the coin. First Day of Issue specimens are those received for grading by the NGC within 24 hours of release from the US Mint. In this case, the coins must arrive in sealed boxes within 24 hours.
The obverse face of 2020 Silver American Eagles includes Walking Liberty. This iconic portrait of Liberty shows here figure in left-profile relief walking toward the bright sunshine of a new day on the horizon. She has her right hand outstretched toward the horizon as her left hand carries branches of oak and laurel. The American flag is draped over her shoulders.
On the reverse side of 2020-P 1 oz Silver American Eagles is a depiction of the heraldic eagle of the United States. The heraldic eagle has featured in various forms on American coins since 1794 and is regularly modified to match the era in which it is produced on coinage. John Mercanti created this image of the heraldic eagle in 1986 for the Silver Eagle.
