To earn this designation, coins must arrive at the PCGS or an approved third-party vault within the first 24 hours of issue by the US Mint.
These 2020-P 1 oz Silver American Eagles are special, emergency issues by the United States Mint to meet an unprecedented and unforeseen surge in demand. In March, the West Point Mint ran out of on-hand Silver Eagles. Before coining could resume in full, the mint was forced to shut down for weeks. To provide bullion coins for investors, the Philadelphia Mint was pressed into service coining bullion Silver Eagles for the first time since 1999-2000. It is important to note, however, these coins do not have a mint mark from the mint.
The obverse face of 2020-P 1 oz Silver American Eagles depicts Walking Liberty in left-profile relief. Created by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916, this image shows Liberty walking toward the sun on the horizon as a symbol of the nation’s march toward a brighter future.
On the reverse side of 2020 Silver American Eagles, the heraldic eagle of the United States features. This iconic emblem of the nation was modified for this series in 1986 by John Mercanti and depicts the eagle with the traditional elements of the US national shield, the arrows of war, and the olive branch of peace.
