The global pandemic caused by the coronavirus led to a sharp downturn in global stock markets. When this occurred, investors began flocking to gold and silver bullion. The result was an announced sellout of 2020 Silver Eagles at the West Point Mint. This was followed by staffing reductions at the mint to protect employees and then a seven-day closure of the mint. Between April 8 and April 20, 2020, the Philadelphia Mint provided the emergency production capacity needed to keep up with demand.

All of these 2020 (P) 1 oz Silver American Eagles are available to you in perfect condition from the PCGS. Coins in Mint State 70 condition have full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws of any kind on the design elements or surface areas of the coin. The included First Strike designation refers to the arrival of the coins for certification. In this case, the coins were received for grading within the first 30 days of release from the United States Mint.

On the obverse side of each 2020 (P) 1 oz Silver American Eagle is the image of Walking Liberty. Designed in 1916, this image captures Liberty walking toward the sun on the horizon as it crests a mountain peak. She carries the branches of oak and laurel in one hand as the American flag is draped over her shoulders.

The reverse face of 2020 (P) 1 oz Silver Eagles bears the image of the heraldic eagle of the United States. John Mercanti developed this depiction of the modern heraldic eagle in 1986 for the debut of the Silver American Eagles. The design features the American bald eagle in front-facing relief with the US national shield on its chest, arrows of war in one talon, and the olive branch of peace in the other.
