The Silver American Eagle coin experienced a unique surge in demand in 2020 driven by factors that have never before hit the market. While stock volatility and global economic downturns have driven investors to the Silver Eagle in the late 1990s and late 2000s, historically, a new factor came into play in 2020: a global pandemic. The result of this pandemic sent demand so high that the US Mint needed to produce an emergency issue of 2020 Silver American Eagles at the Philadelphia Mint to meet demand from investors. Today, 2020 (P) Silver American Eagle NGC Gem Rolls are available to you online at Silver.com.

The last time the Silver Eagle was produced at the Philadelphia Mint was a two-year stretch in 1999-2000. The US Mint was in a period of transition as it switched production of the popular bullion coins from the original home at the San Francisco Mint to the new home at the West Point Mint. With the global pandemic sending shockwaves through financial markets and investors demanding more Silver Eagles, the Philadelphia Mint was once again asked to produce the Silver Eagle bullion coin, eventually striking 240,000 emergency issue 2020 Silver Eagles.
All of the 2020 (P) Silver American Eagles in this NGC Gem Roll are Gem Uncirculated specimens, indicating that each one may have minor imperfections and possible toning, but are otherwise quality coins with full mint luster. The clear Gem Roll securely seals in all 20 coins and comes with an Early Release label for the group. This means the coins were received by the NGC within the first 30 days of release by the US Mint.
Walking Liberty is depicted on the obverse of each 2020 (P) Silver American Eagle in this tube. The design was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman and captures Liberty in left-profile relief. Inspired by the historic French “sower” coin design, Liberty walks toward the sun on the horizon with her right hand reaching out as her left hand carries branches of oak and laurel. The American flag is draped over her shoulders in this design.
The national emblem of the federal government, the heraldic eagle of the United States is found on the reverse of 2020 (P) Silver Eagles. This version of the national seal was modified in 1986 by John Mercanti to feature a powerful bald eagle with a sharp, defined US national shield on its chest. The bird clutches the arrows of war, olive branch of peace, and comes with a triangular cluster of 13 stars over its head.
