The Perth Mint introduced the Australian Kookaburra Series in 1990. The series launched at the same time the mint rebranded the Gold Nugget Series to the Gold Kangaroo Series. The goal was to showcase the unique splendor of Australia’s native wildlife species on its national bullion coinage. The introduction of the Kookaburra Series, in particular, eventually led to the introduction of the Silver Koala, Silver Wedge Tail Eagle, Silver Kangaroo, and Silver Emu. Today, the mint has a new first in the Kookaburra Series in its 32nd year of availability.
