The United States Mint only issues two gold bullion coins each year. The nation’s only 24-karat gold coin is the Gold Buffalo, while its longest-running gold bullion series is the Gold Eagle. The Gold American Eagles are the official gold bullion coins of the nation and boast 24-karat gold with a balance of silver and copper. American gold coinage evolved several times over the course of its history. Early gold coins were issued with 22-karat gold, the modern metallic alloy used in the Gold Eagles. However, in 1834, the US Mint lowered gold content below 90% gold. By 1837, the gold content was pegged at exactly 90% and remained that way until 1933 when gold coining was halted with the end of the nation’s adherence to the gold standard.

The resumption of US gold coining came with the release of the first Gold American Eagles in 1986. The Gold Eagle features 22-karat gold content. Each coin has 91.67% gold content with a balance of 5.33% copper and 3% silver.

The obverse face of 2021 1/2 oz Gold American Eagles features a depiction of Lady Liberty. The front-facing image of Liberty showcases her figure walking away from Washington DC with rays of sunshine emerging over the horizon at her back. She clutches an olive branch in her left hand and holds up a torch in her right hand.

On the reverse side of the 2021 Gold Eagles is a visual of American bald eagles. This design from Miley Busiek features a family unit with the female eagle offering a young hatchling shelter underneath her wing in the nest as a male eagle flies overhead clutching a branch in its talons.

2021 1/2 oz Gold American Eagles are available to you for purchase at Silver.com in perfect condition. The coins have a Mint State 70 certification that indicates each one showcases full, original mint luster and presents with no detracting flaws of any kind. The Early Release label means the NGC received the coins from the US Mint for certification within 30 days of the initial release date.
