The Silver Libertads from the Mexican Mint are offered to investors each year, with a stunning eight different options out there for investors to choose from when buying silver. The program launched with a 1 oz silver coin and expanded over time to include four fractional-ounce coins, a 2 oz and 5 oz option, and a 1 Kilo silver coin. Now, 2021 1/20 oz Silver Mexican Libertads are available to you for purchase online at Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Coins ship to you inside of individual plastic flips!
  • 30th year of availability in the 1/20 oz Silver Libertad range!
  • Consists of 1/20 Troy ounce of .999 fine silver in BU condition.
  • On the obverse side is an image of the Mexican coat of arms.
  • The reverse field includes the statue of Winged Victory on the Mexican Independence Victory Column.

The Mexican Mint introduced the Silver Mexican Libertad in 1982. The first expansion of the series came in 1991 when the four fractional-ounce weights of 1/20 oz, 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/2 oz silver were introduced. In 1996, the Mexican Mint introduced weights above 1 oz of silver that included 2 oz and 5 oz options. The largest coin in the series is the 1 Kilo Silver Libertad that was introduced in 2008.

Mintage of the Silver Libertads ebbs and flows with each year based on precious metals prices and demand for bullion. With that said, the Silver Libertads often have some of the lowest mintages among major silver bullion coin programs. The 1/20 oz Silver Libertad has proven a strong performer in this series, often finishing as the second or third highest minted coin each year behind only the 1 oz and 1/10 oz coins, often flipping with the 1/10 oz silver coin for second-highest behind the 1 oz coin.

On the obverse side of 2021 1/20 oz Silver Mexican Libertads is an image of the Mexican coat of arms. The coat of arms comes with a golden eagle battling a serpent on the branch of a prickly pear cactus. This image of the modern coat of arms has been on use Silver Libertads since the series was introduced in 1982.

The reverse field of the 2021 Silver Mexican Libertads features the Winged Victory statue. Winged Victory is based on the Roman goddess Victoria, known in Greek mythology as Nike. Her figure was long worshipped by victorious generals and was held up as a symbol in revolutionary Mexico when the people fought back against Spanish colonial control.
