There’s no time like 2021 to start buying gold coins in the Gold American Eagles Series. For the first time in its 35-year history, the Gold Eagle will receive a major design overhaul with a new reverse design of the bald eagle coming. However, the change won’t take place until mid-2021, which means two different design combinations will be issued by the US Mint in 2021. Today, 2021 1/4 oz Gold American Eagles in perfect condition are available to you online at Silver.com.

The United States Mint has authorized the search for and approved the deployment of a new design on the reverse of the Gold American Eagle coins, as well as its Silver American Eagle counterpart. By federal law, US coins must maintain the same designs for at least 25 years before the US Mint can move to replace the designs, though Congressional approval can be given short of that mark. As 2021 marks the 35th anniversary of the series, the US Mint took the opportunity to roll out a new design in the anniversary year. These coins represent your last chance to get new Gold Eagles with the original design combinations.

All of the 2021 1/4 oz Gold American Eagles listed here have Mint State 70 certifications. The PCGS issues this perfect certification to coins that have full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws. Each coin additionally earned a First Strike designation. This identifies the coins as specimens received by the PCGS for grading inside the first 30 days of release from the US Mint.

On the obverse of 2021 Gold American Eagles is the image of Lady Liberty. This historic design marked one of the first breaks from Greek- and Roman-inspired designs of Liberty on American coinage. It debuted in 1907 and features Liberty in front-facing relief walking forward holding a large torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left hand.

The reverse face of 2021 1/4 oz Gold American Eagles features a depiction of a family of bald eagles. This design from Miley Busiek shows a male eagle flying above the nest, wings swooping around and encompassing the entire area above the nest. Below, a female eagle guards a young hatchling in the nest.
