The Mexican Mint’s introduction of the Gold Libertad Series in 1981 revived one of the most iconic coin designs from national history. In 1921, the Mexican Mint issued a 50 Peso gold coin to mark the 100th anniversary of national independence from Spain. That coin, known as the Centenario, featured Winged Victory on the reverse side with the national coat of arms on the obverse. When the Gold Libertad debuted in 1981, the exact designs from the Centenario were revived and continued to feature on the Gold Libertad, unchanged, through 1999.
All of these 2021 1/4 oz Gold Mexican Libertads are available to you with protective plastic flips, whether purchasing one coin or several coins. Each one of the coins comes in Brilliant Uncirculated condition from the Mexican Mint.
On the obverse of 2021 Gold Mexican Libertads is an image of the national coat of arms. The national seal features a Mexican gold eagle battling with a serpent on the perch of a prickly pear cactus. The wreath below the design is made from oak and laurel, while the Spanish-language name for the nation of issue is inscribed above. Like its fractional-ounce counterparts, the 1/4 oz Gold Libertad has only the modern version of the coat of arms on this side.
The reverse field of 2021 1/4 oz Gold Mexican Libertads features the statuesque image of Winged Victory. Introduced on the original Centenario in 1921, as of 2000, the Gold Libertad features a three-quarter side profile image of Victory. The image shown here is that of her statue as it sits atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City.
