Samwise Gamgee’s role as the story opens in The Lord of the Rings is that of gardener for Frodo Baggins. Samwise actually inherited his role from his father, Hamfast Gaffer Gamgee, who had previously been the gardener for Bilbo Baggins.

While tending to Frodo’s garden in the early scenes, Samwise overhears a conversation between Frodo and Gandalf the Grey, the wizard who is seeking to form the Fellowship of the Ring and destroy the One Ring. To complete this mission, Gandalf requires a team of devoted individuals who will take the One Ring to Mordor and cast it into the same fires that formed it in the first place.

The obverse of 2021 Proof Gold Niue The Lord of the Rings Samwise Gamgee Coins features an image of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara on her head. This effigy was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley and featured on British coins from 1998 to 2015.

On the reverse side of the 2021 1/4 oz Proof Gold The Lord of the Rings Samwise Gamgee Coins is a depiction of Samwise. One of the two hobbits in the Fellowship of the Ring, Samwise is shown here in left-profile relief with his cloak and travel pack on his back.
