Nautical history has seen plenty of great ships over the centuries. When experts rank the all-time greats, you’ll often find the STS Sedov at the top of their lists. The ship has a fascinating story that begins in 1921, when she was launched at the Friedrich Krupp Germaniawerft in Germany. She quickly gained fame for her size and speed as she carried cargo around the world. In 1936, she was sold to a different German shipping company and became primarily a training vessel. Finally, in 1945, she was handed over to Russia as part of a World War II reparations package. Today, the Sedov remains a training vessel for cadets and is also used in sailing races across the globe.

The STS Sedov is depicted on the obverse of 2021 Rwandan Sedov Nautical Ounce Coins. This legendary vessel is captured in stunning detail as it sails through the crashing waves. Additional details on the design include a compass rose facing the four cardinal directions, as well as other nautical equipment. The coin’s hallmarks are found along the rim.

The national Rwandan seal is featured on the reverse of 2021 1 oz Antique Silver Sedov Nautical Ounce Coins. This design is enclosed by a rope tied together with a square knot. Inside the rope are two shields, between which sits a basket atop a cogwheel. Attached to the basket are a coffee branch and a sorghum stem. Above the basket, we see the sun.

All 2021 Antique Silver Rwandan Sedov Nautical Ounce Coins arrive inside protective plastic capsules and include a Certificate of Authenticity from the mint. The beautiful antique finish on these specimens gives them a vintage, matte appearance, which fits perfectly with the coin’s historical subject matter.
