In 2021, the United States Mint celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Silver Eagle and Gold Eagle coins with something more than a privy mark or edge-lettering. For this major milestone, the US Mint has introduced refreshed design elements on the reverse of the coins, retiring the existing bald eagle designs on each coin in favor of the new designs. Today, 2021 1 oz Gold American Eagle Type 2 Coins available to you online at Silver.com in near-perfect condition.

The new design on the reverse of the 2021 Gold Eagles. Designed by Jennie Norris, the image of the bald eagle was chosen from a field of more than 30 possible designs. Ms. Norris is a member of the United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program.

All of the 2021 oz Gold American Eagle Type 2 Coins available here at Silver.com come with a Mint State 69 certification from the NGC. Coins in this condition have full, original mint luster with a maximum of two minor detractions. Acceptable detractions at this grade level include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines that must be located outside of the primary focal points of the coin. The Early Release designation means that each of these coins arrived for grading within 30 days of the release by the US Mint.

On the obverse of 2021 Gold American Eagles is an effigy of Lady Liberty in front-facing relief. Walking toward the viewer, she holds up a torch in her right hand with an olive branch in her left. When Augustus Saint-Gaudens developed this design in 1907, the US Mint lacked the technology to replicate his design precisely on coins. In 2021, the US Mint has that ability and has enhanced small details of the torch, stars, sun rays, the Capitol Building to meet Saint-Gaudens’ original vision.

The reverse of 2021 1 oz Gold Eagles comes with a new bald eagle design. Created by Jennie Norris, it shows a bald eagle’s head in left-profile relief. The incredible level of detail captures each feather in its plumage. The coins now have a security element in the form of the variation on the reeded edge.
