Gold American Eagles from the United States Mint represent the official gold bullion coin series of the nation. Introduced in 1986, the popular series has featured the same obverse and reverse designs on all versions and weights in the series since that time. For the 35th anniversary in 2021, the US Mint is refreshing a design element for the first time in the history of the series. Right now, near-perfect 2021 1 oz Gold American Eagle Type 2 Coins are available to purchase online at Silver.com.

Each 2021 1 oz Gold American Eagle Coin in this Silver.com listing comes in near-perfect condition. A coin with a Mint State 69 certification has full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. These flaws are limited to minuscule contact marks or hairlines and must be outside of the primary focal points of the coin. First Day of Issue designations are reserved for coins received within 24 hours of release to be graded by the NGC.

The release of 2021 Type 2 Gold Eagles not only marks the debut of a new reverse design element, but also new security features and other enhancements. The obverse field offers enhanced detail on the stars, sun rays, U.S. Capitol Building, and torch that help to better replicate Saint-Gaudens’ originally intended design. The coins now also have a reeded edge variation for anti-counterfeiting protection.

Lady Liberty is still found on the obverse of 2021 1 oz Gold American Eagles. Her effigy is shown in front-facing relief with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. Sun rays emerge from the horizon behind her figure while a ring of 50 stars encircles her.

A new depiction of the American bald eagle greets you on the reverse of 2021 1 oz Gold Eagle Type 2 Coins. Designed by Jennie Norris, this design shows a bald eagle head in left-profile relief with its powerful hooked beak, sharp eyes, and detailed plumage.
