The United States Mint announced in late 2019 its intention to refresh the designs on the reverse of the Silver Eagle and Gold Eagle coins. The 2021 release of Gold American Eagles started, like the Silver Eagle, with the original design combinations. With the release of the Type 2 coins, a new path forward has been charted as the new reverse bald eagle design makes its debut. Today, near-perfect 2021 1 oz Gold American Eagle Type 2 Coins are available to you online at Silver.com.

Gold American Eagles represent one of the purest gold coins in the history of the United States Mint. The coin’s 1986 introduction made it the first US gold coin struck since 1933 and the purest gold coin since 1834. The gold content of Gold American Eagles is 91.67% gold, with a balance of 5.33% copper and 3% silver.

All of these 2021 1 oz Gold American Eagle Type 2 Coins come to you in near-perfect condition. Coins in Mint State 69 condition have full, original mint luster and present with no more than two minor detractions. Examples of acceptable flaws at this level include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines and these must be outside the primary focal points of the coin. First Day of Issue coins are those received for grading within 24 hours of the US Mint releasing the coins.

On the obverse of 2021 Gold American Eagles is the historic Lady Liberty design from Augustus Saint-Gaudens. The design shows Liberty in front-facing relief as she walks toward the viewer holding aloft a torch and carrying an olive branch of peace.

The reverse side of the 2021 1 oz Gold Eagle Type 2 Coin comes with an all-new design from Jennie Norris. The design depicts an eagle’s head in left-profile relief with a great level of detail from its hooked beak and steely gaze to the plumage of the bird. The new Type 2 coins have enhanced details on select obverse design elements and a reeded edge variation to protect against counterfeiting.
