The Gold Eagles from the United States Mint are available annually in three versions. Since 1986, the US Mint has issued the Gold Eagle in Brilliant Uncirculated and Proof versions. In 2006, a Burnished version of the gold eagle was introduced into the series. The Type 1 release of the 2021 Gold Eagles from the United States Mint started the production cycle for the collection in 2021. The Type 1 coins featured the original Miley Busiek design on the reverse. The Type 2 coins released from midyear come with the new bald eagle design on the reverse as created by Jennie Norris, an artist in the United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program.
Another important feature comes to the 2021 Gold Eagle Type 2 Coins. The US Mint has enhanced the visual appearance and detail of the stars, torch, sun rays, and U.S. Capitol Building on the obverse of the coins to bring the designs closer to Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ intended design in 1907. Each coin also has a variation in its reeded edge that delivers anti-counterfeiting protection.
Lady Liberty is featured on the obverse of 2021 1 oz Gold American Eagles. The design was created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and captures her figure in front-facing relief as she walks toward the viewer. She is holding a torch in her right hand and carrying an olive branch in her left hand.
A new American bald eagle is depicted in the reverse design of the 2021 Gold American Eagles. This vision of the eagle captures the bird in left-profile relief with its steely gaze staring off into the distance. The powerful hooked beak of the bird is featured in the design, along with intricate details for its plumage.
2021 1 oz Gold American Eagle Type 2 Coins available here come in near-perfect condition. Mint State 69 coins showcase full, original mint luster and have no more than two minor flaws. Examples of acceptable flaws include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines and must be located outside the primary focal points of the coin. First Strike coins must arrive at the PCGS within 30 days of initial release to qualify.
