Lady Justice is based on the Roman goddess of Justitia. Introduced during the 1st century AD during the reign of Emperor Augustus, Lady Justice was the female embodiment of Justice, a virtue that Augustus wanted to embrace within the empire during his reign. This virtue and the image of Lady Justice would carry on through the reign of all subsequent emperors through the fall of the empire.

On the obverse side of 2021 Gold Gibraltar Lady Justice Coins is a depiction of the national coat of arms. Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory and incorporates the Royal Arms of England into its broader coat of arms. The individual coat of arms for Gibraltar features at the bottom of the design in the form of a shield with a castle that has a key beneath it. The larger seal is the Royal Arms of England with a quartered shield supported by the Lion of England and Unicorn of Scotland, and topped by an Imperial Crown.

The reverse face of 2021 1 oz Gold Lady Justice Coins features an image of Justice. A modern depiction from Scottsdale Mint, this design shows Justice in front-facing relief as she walks with a sword raised in her right hand and scales in her left hand that she extends out in front of her. She wears a blindfold over her eyes. The mountain range extends off into the distance as seven stars are included within the field.
