The Gold Somalia Elephant is one of the few gold bullion coin collections in the world to offer new design images each year. The collection has never repeated a design in its history, offering a new glimpse of the African bush elephant in its natural habitat on the reverse with each release. With each new design, the silver and gold coins share the same design for each date mark.
African bush elephants are the largest living land mammals in the world today. The other two living species of elephant today, the African bush elephant and the Asian elephant, are the second- and third-largest land mammals in the world, respectively.
The obverse side of 2021 1 oz Gold Somalia Elephants comes with a depiction of the national coat of arms for Somalia. The seal of the Somali Republic uses a crowned shield with a background field of horizontal lines and a single star in front of the lines. The shield is flanked by leopards on either side with spears and fern leaves crossed below.
On the reverse face of the 2021 Gold Somalia Elephant is an image of the African bush elephant that is new for this date mark. In this new design, the bush elephant is moving in closer to the viewer of the coin. Its trunk extends beyond the design field with its tusks pointed at the viewer as it flaps out its ears in a display of aggression.
