The American Eagle Series from the US Mint features gold, silver, platinum, and palladium options as of 2017. The Lady Liberty images featured on the gold, silver, and palladium coins all come from historic American currency. The gold coin features Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ 1907 image of Liberty from the Gold Double Eagle. The silver coin bears the Walking Liberty design from Adolph A. Weinman created in 1916 and used on the US Half Dollar. Similarly, the palladium coin has Weinman’s other 1916 design of Winged Liberty used on the US Dime.

The obverse of 2021 1 oz Platinum Eagles features the depiction of the Statue of Liberty. John Mercanti, the man who created the reverse vision of the American eagle for the Silver Eagle, created this vision of the Statue of Liberty for use on the Platinum Eagle in 1997. It has featured on the obverse of all BU specimens and all Proof specimens issued from 1997 to 2017.

On the reverse side of 2021 Platinum American Eagles is a vision of the American bald eagle in flight. The majestic bald eagle is shown gliding through the air with its wings stretched out to the furthest point. Designed by Thomas D. Rogers, the image includes the sun rising over the nation in the background field.
