The Royal Canadian Mint introduced its Platinum Canadian Maple Leaf at a time when few platinum coins were available on an annual basis to investors. In fact, when the coins debuted in 1988, the Platinum Maple Leaf was the only annually-released platinum coin from a major mint. The Perth Mint had issued platinum coins at this point, but not as annual offerings.
All of these 2021 1 oz Platinum Canadian Maple Leafs are available to you in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins will ship to you inside of either protective plastic flips or mint tubes of 10 coins.
Platinum Canadian Maple Leafs have been available as of 2009 in only a 1 oz weight. From 2003 to 2008, there were no issues of the Platinum Maple Leaf. Its 1988 debut included 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz coins. In 1993, a 1/20 oz platinum coin was introduced. All of these coins were suspended due to a lack of interest following the 2002 release.
Queen Elizabeth II features in the obverse design of the 2021 Platinum Canadian Maple Leaf. This right-profile bust of the Queen is the fourth-generation effigy and was created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt. The portrait features the Queen without a crown, a first for monarch portraits on Canadian coins since the reign of King George VI, the father of Queen Elizabeth II.
A sugar maple leaf is found on the reverse side of 2021 1 oz Platinum Maple Leafs. This iconic emblem features on all versions of the Canadian Maple Leaf, including the gold, silver, and palladium options. The design was created in 1979 by Walter Ott when the Royal Canadian Mint introduced the Gold Canadian Maple Leaf Series.
