The Perth Mint is famed for the use of native animal species in the design of its silver bullion coins. First came the kookaburra, then the koala and kangaroo. The Silver Quokka coin was first released by the Perth Mint in 2020 as a Brilliant Uncirculated specimen. That debut release came with a limited mintage of just 30,000 silver coins, and now that same design is available as a colorized proof on a 2021-dated collectible coin with a much lower mintage figure.
All of these 2021 1 oz Proof Colorized Silver Australian Quokka Coins are available to purchase with presentation packaging. The Perth Mint houses the coins inside of black display cases that have a clear lid. The coins ship with the reverse design element visible underneath the clear lid. The coin and case are available inside of a colorized, illustrated shipper that has the same visuals from the reverse captured in a stunning landscape photograph. The coins also come with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity from the mint.
On the obverse of 2021 1 oz Proof Colorized Quokka Coins is a depiction of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. The longest-reigning monarch in British history, Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief in a design that serves as the sixth-generation portrait of the monarch on Australian coins. It was created in 2015 by Jody Clark of the Royal Mint and made its debut on Australian coins in 2018.
The reverse field of 2021 Proof Colorized Silver Australian Quokka Coins comes with a depiction of the lovable wallaby. The animals are famed for their acceptance of humans and have become the subject of many social media posts in recent years as visitors to the islands the quokkas live on taking selfies with the sociable creatures.
Quokkas are part of the marsupial species and only members of the genus known as Setonix. Roughly the size of a house cat, the quokkas live on islands such as Rottnest and Bald Island off the coast of Western Australia.
