In the Proof Gold Libertad Series at the Mexican Mint, the 1 oz gold coin is the largest gold coin for sale and is accompanied by four fractional-ounce coins. The 1 oz coin has been available since 2005, with only the 2012 date mark absent in the collection since that time. The coins return in 2021 with mintages that have jumped from 2020, but still remain near record lows for the program. Now, 2021 1 oz Proof Gold Mexican Libertad Coins are available to you for purchase online from Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Coins ship to you inside individual protective capsules!
  • 17th coin in the Proof Gold Libertad Series!
  • Mintage limited to 500 coins only!
  • Consists of One Troy ounce of .999 pure gold.

  • National coat of arms of Mexico on the reverse.
  • Proof coins.

In 2020, the Proof Gold Libertads from the Mexican Mint had a uniform mintage of just 250 coins for each of the five gold coins in the collection. For each of the coins, this was either a new record low are matched the previous record low. For the 1 oz gold coin, the 2020 issue matched two previous record lows from 2014 and 2005.

The 2021 mintage of 500 coins is the third-lowest figure in the history of the series, but it matches several previous issues. The second-lowest mintage was the 2013 coin with a mintage of 400 coins in total. The 2007, 2008, and 2015 coins all previously hit a mark of 500 coins, putting four date marks in third place.

Winged Victory is found on the obverse of the 2021 1 oz Proof Gold Libertads. This three-quarter profile of the Angel of Independence is the second version of her effigy to feature on the Gold Libertads. From 1981 to 1999, any Gold Libertads issued had the original Gold Centenario version of Victory on the obverse. Only the 1989 1/4 oz Proof Gold Libertad used this effigy. As of 2000, all Gold Libertads have this modern image of Victory.

The national coat of arms of Mexico is found on the reverse side of 2021 Proof Gold Mexican Libertads. This design is unique among the five Proof Gold Libertads in that it not only features the modern coat of arms at the center, but also comes with a total of 10 historic versions of the symbol used throughout Mexican history. In fact, the seal at the 12-o’clock position around the edge is the 1541 Codex Mendoza, the symbol from Aztec history that inspired Mexico’s coat of arms.

These 2021 1 oz Proof Gold Mexican Libertads are available with individual protective capsules and boast proof visuals. Traditional cameo proofs have frosted designs with mirrored background fields.
