The introduction of the Type 2 design in the Silver American Eagle Series in 2021 takes the collection in a new direction. The series has featured the heraldic eagle design from John Mercanti on the reverse since its 1986 debut. The Type 2 design was created by Emily Damstra and is a central piece of the mint’s 35th-anniversary celebration for the series. For the 35th anniversary of the Silver American Eagle Series, the US Mint announced plans to release two versions of the Silver Eagle in 2021. The coins now known as 2021 Type 1 coins featured the original design of the heraldic eagle and were struck through June 2021. Starting in July 2021, the US Mint began striking new 2021-dated coins with the new bald eagle design on the reverse. Known as the Type 2 coins, these coins will be the only options going forward from 2022 onward.

All of these 2021 1 oz Silver American Eagle Type 2 Coins are gilded specimens. There is a thin layer of 24-karat gold applied to the reverse field. This application is limited to the design of the bald eagle and the oak branch it is clutching. The coins in this listing come with plastic capsules and are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

On the obverse side of 2021 Silver American Eagle Type 2 Coins is an image of Walking Liberty. Created by Adolph A. Weinman, this 1916 design shows the full-length vision of Liberty in left-profile relief as she walks along the field of the coin. The design shows Liberty walking toward the sun with the American flag draped around her figure.

The reverse field of 2021 1 oz Silver Eagle Type 2 Coins comes with a brand-new design created in 2020. The work of Emily Damstra, this vision of the bald eagle shows the powerful predator in flight with its wings flexed behind its figure and its talons clutching a large oak branch.
