For the 35th-anniversary release of the Silver American Eagle, the United States Mint offers a dual release of the coins. A new design element was created for the reverse side of the coins for the 2021 release, but was not ready when the 2021 Silver Eagles went into production. As a result, there are 2021 coins with the original design elements and with the new reverse. Now, 2021 1 oz Silver American Eagles with the original designs are available to purchase online at Silver.com in near-perfect condition.

Since 1986, the Silver American Eagle has featured the modern rendition of the heraldic eagle of the United States on the reverse. For this series, the image was modernized by John Mercanti. The heraldic eagle is the official emblem of the federal government and was first used on an American coin in 1794 with the first releases of American currency following independence.

The first version of the seal was designed by Robert Scot, the 1st Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. It has been modified several times throughout American history at the hands of current or future Chief Engravers of the United States Mint, such as George T. Morgan, the 7th Chief Engraver. Employed by the US Mint beginning in the 1970s, John Mercanti finished his career in 2010 serving as the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint.

The obverse side of 2021 Silver American Eagles features the image of Walking Liberty. Designed by Adolph A. Weinman, the vision of Liberty shows her figure in left-profile relief with the American flag draped around her figure.

On the reverse face of the 2021 Silver Eagle is Mercanti’s version of the heraldic eagle. This design shows the American bald eagle in support of the US national shield. The eagle clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons. Above its head is a triangular cluster of 13 stars.

2021 1 oz Silver American Eagles available here come with near-perfect certifications. Coins with a Mint State 69 grade showcase full, original mint luster with no more than two minor flaws. Examples of acceptable detracting flaws at this grade include minuscule contact marks or hairlines. The flaws cannot be present within the primary focal points of the coin.
