The United States Mint introduced the Silver American Eagles in 1986 as the nation’s official silver bullion coin option for investors. Since that time, the designs on the obverse and reverse of the coins have remained the same from one year to the next. However, 2021 will eventually bring a new reverse design, but early releases continue with the iconic obverse and reverse pairing of designs.

A new design is coming to the Silver American Eagle during the 2021 release of the coins. With a new design not ready in time for 2021 coins to be struck, the US Mint is answering the demand for initial 2021 coins by releasing coins at the start of the production run with the iconic combination of Walking Liberty and the heraldic eagle.
The obverse side of the 2021 1 oz Silver Eagles includes a depiction of Walking Liberty. In this design, Lady Liberty is featured in left-profile relief walking toward the sun on the horizon with her hand outstretched.
On the reverse face of 2021 Silver American Eagles is an image of the heraldic eagle of the United States. The heraldic eagle is an iconic emblem for the nation and a symbol of the federal government. It depicts the bald eagle with a heraldic shield on its chest, arrows in one talon, and an olive branch in the other. There are also 13 stars in a triangular cluster over its head.
This is likely to be your last chance to get the Silver American Eagle coin with the combination of Walking Liberty and the Heraldic Eagle before the US Mint changes the design later in 2021.
