The Perth Mint is world-renowned for its production of annual-issue silver bullion coins with images of native wildlife. The most coveted feature of these coins, beyond the government-backed silver, is the use of new images on the reverse field each year. The Silver Australian Koala is one of five major silver bullion issues from the Perth Mint annually. Now, 2021 1 oz Silver Australian Koalas are available to you for purchase online at Silver.com.

  • Coins ship to you inside of protective acrylic capsules, sealed rolls of 20 coins, or boxes of 100 coins!
  • 15th available 1 oz Silver Australian Koala!
  • Mintage limited to 300,000 coins only!
  • Consists of One Troy ounce of .9999 fine silver in BU condition.
  • Issued a face value of $1 (AUD) by Australia.
  • The obverse shows a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
  • On the reverse is the image of a koala napping in a tree.
  • Artwork from Monique Reeves.

The Silver Australian Koala was just the second of the five aforementioned options to debut from the Perth Mint. The Silver Koalas debuted in 2007. While this was the second coin of its kind, it came 17 years after the introduction of the Silver Kookaburra in 1990. The coins that followed the Silver Koala were introduced in quick succession after its release.

In 2014, the mint introduced the Silver Wedge Tail Eagle. In 2016, the Perth Mint transitioned a previous Silver Kangaroo program into an annual-issue bullion series with the debut of the new Silver Australian Kangaroo. That coin just happened to be the first-ever .9999 fine silver BU coin from the mint. In 2018, the Silver Australian Emu debuted.

The obverse side of all 2021 1 oz Silver Australian Koalas features an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is the longest-reigning monarch of England and ruler of the Commonwealth. While she is Queen of England, she also holds the title of Queen of Australia in this Commonwealth nation. This right-profile effigy of the Queen is the sixth-generation design to feature on Australian coins.

On the reverse face of the 2021 Silver Australian Koalas is a depiction of the series namesake. A koala is shown in this design as it naps in the branches of a eucalyptus tree. The koala is said to sleep up to 18 or 20 hours per day and relies on the eucalyptus for the vast majority of its plant-based diet.
