The longest-running silver for sale among the Perth Mint’s annual coin collections is the Silver Australian Kookaburra. The Silver Kookaburras were introduced in 1990 and not only resulted in the introduction of a design theme that sees a new reverse design used on the coin each year, it also resulted in the Gold Nugget coin series transitioning to the Gold Kangaroo to keep the focus on all Australian annual bullion issues featuring native animal species. Now, 2021 1 oz Silver Australian Kookaburras are available to you for purchase online at Silver.com.

The Silver Australian Kookaburra debuted in 1990 and has featured a mintage cap every year since that time. The mintage cap has predominantly been set at 300,000 coins throughout the history of the series, but recent years have seen that cap move upward to 500,000 coins. The 1990 release of the coins had only a 1 oz silver coin available.
In 1991, the series still offered only a 1 oz silver option with more weights introduced in 1992. Those new silver weights were 2 oz, 10 oz, and 1 Kilogram silver. The 2 oz silver coin was offered from 1992 to 2009. Since 2010, only the 1 oz, 10 oz, and 1 Kilogram silver coins have been issued.
On the obverse side of 2021 1 oz Silver Australian Kookaburras is a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. This right-profile portrait of the Queen was designed for the Royal Mint of England in 2015 by Jody Clark. It is the sixth-generation design of the Queen to feature on Australian coins and the first on an Australian coin since 1966 to include the Queen’s neckline and shoulders in the design.
The reverse face of the 2021 Silver Australian Kookaburra comes with a new design of the kookaburra from Aleysha Howarth. This year’s depiction of the largest member of the kingfisher species showcases the bird perched on the branch of a gum tree with seedpods visible beneath the branch that the bird is resting on. On this side of the coin, there is a microscopic security element that features a single letter within the “Australian Kookaburra” inscription.
These 2021 1 oz Silver Australian Kookaburras are available to purchase individually inside of protective acrylic capsules. Multiples arrive in sealed rolls of 20 coins or boxes of 100 coins, with the box holding five rolls. All coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
