Dalmatians originated as hunting dogs in the portion of Eastern Europe now known as Croatia. Many believe that the early ancestors to this breed are various pointers and even the spotted Great Dane. From its origins as a hunting dog, today the Dalmatian is a popular family pet and a regular in kennel club competitions.

On the obverse side of 2021 Silver Croatia Dalmatian Dogs is a depiction of a portion of the Croatian map and a Dalmatian. The Dalmatian breed is named for a historic region of Croatia known as Dalmatia. The dogs are instantly recognizable with their white fur and black spots, the latter of which forms between 10 days of age and 18 months. This design from Nikola Vudrag incorporates a Dalmatian seated in right-profile relief with spots on its body that are actually formed by Croatia islands in the Adriatic Sea.

The reverse field of the 2021 1 oz Croatia Dalmatian Dog features an image of two Dalmatians. One of the dogs is featured in the foreground as it lies down on the ground. The other is standing in the background in right-profile relief showing off some of the qualities of the pointer that contributed to the breed.
